Chair of WEF 2024 Event

Welcome to WEF 2024 in Rabat - a pivotal event taking place during a time when our planet is facing significant challenges in health, environment, energy, and raw materials, among others. It is evident from history that in times of crisis, technology and innovation have played a critical role in finding solutions. Digital and electronic innovations, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, Internet of Things, quantum computing, 5G/6G, cybersecurity, communication and more, are transforming the way governments, companies, and individuals address these challenges. However, it is imperative that these innovations also consider their societal acceptability and environmental impact. The "electronification" of human activities has become a catalyst for the deployment of these innovations. Objects are becoming programmable, creating new services and becoming data providers. This raises crucial questions about data regulation, governance, and location within networks. WEF 2024 in Rabat aims to bring together key players in the field of digital and electronic innovation, communication, and markets to facilitate cooperation, highlight key innovations from promising companies, research centers, and start-ups, and contribute to resolving the current crises. We will also explore growth opportunities and initiate potential partnerships, including with developing countries. I am thrilled to have each one of you here to engage in thoughtful discussions, share insights, and collectively shape the future of our industry. Let us work together to navigate these challenges and unlock new possibilities for a sustainable and innovative future.

Day 1 & 2

HACKADIR CHALLENGE : Smart City: How can IoT empower the quarter hour city concept

Before we host the World Electronics Forum (WEF) in Morocco, we invite you to participate in the HACKADIR challenge—an exceptional event that merges electronics, the Quarter Hour Smart City concept, and the spirit of innovation. This prelude to the WEF is designed to revolutionize urban environments and shape the future of cities. Engage with talented individuals, explore cutting-edge solutions, and contribute to the advancement of smart cities.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore and propose innovative solutions within three key challenge areas:

Infrastructure:

Cities require robust and efficient infrastructures to support the quarter hour city concept. This includes mobility infrastructure such as roads, highways, and transportation systems, as well as electronic networks and smart decision-making systems. Energy vectors like water systems and electricity providers also play a crucial role. Participants can address this challenge by presenting innovative solutions that enhance and optimize urban infrastructures.

Services:

Smart cities aim to provide enhanced services that improve citizens' experiences and support business activities. This challenge area revolves around the development of primary urban services such as education, healthcare, and administration. Additionally, participants can explore value-added services like banking, purchasing, parking management, tourism, entertainment, and more. By proposing innovative and technology-driven service solutions, participants can contribute to the overall vision of creating smarter and more efficient cities.

Sustainability:

A smart city is inherently sustainable. Participants will have the opportunity to focus on sustainability-related aspects, including intelligent building systems, waste management, the use of renewable materials, promotion of green energies, and sustainable agriculture practices. Proposing solutions that contribute to the ecological balance and long-term sustainability of cities will be a significant aspect of this challenge.

Through the exploration of these three challenge areas, participants will have the opportunity to delve into the core components of smart cities, unleashing their creativity and innovation to propose solutions that align with the quarter city concept. Join us on this exciting journey as we pave the way for the WEF in Morocco.
